Marietta was raised in southern Ontario, deeply rooted in a primarily Dutch-Canadian community. Nurtured in her faith within the Christian Reformed denomination, Christian schooling has been central to her life. She obtained her BA in Education at Calvin University, where she met her husband Henry. After teaching in a Christian elementary school, they moved to Raleigh in 1992 and joined West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, where they raised their three sons.
Marietta has enjoyed the opportunity to work with all ages and stages in her ministries, briefly at Raleigh First Presbyterian Church, and then on the staff at West Raleigh for more than 16 years. She completed her Masters in Christian Education through the distance-learning program of Union Presbyterian Seminary and her Certification as Christian Educator in the PC (USA) in 2016. Providentially, one of those certification classes, a Presbyterian Polity class, was located right here at WPC and introduced her to both Chris Tuttle as teacher and Alex Stayer-Brewington as a fellow student! Marietta and Henry share life with two cats and always look forward to gathering with their family, which now includes three wonderful daughters-in-law.
